The crossing boat

Most boats on this site sail loops out of Labuan Bajo harbor. Alfathran 3 does something different: she connects Lombok’s Gili islands to Labuan Bajo in four days and three nights, which turns the transit between two destinations into the trip itself. For anyone weighing a Komodo tour from Bali or Labuan Bajo, this is the third answer — fly or ferry to Lombok from Bali, board there, and step off in Labuan Bajo with the park already behind you.

The hull is set up for longer sea legs: twelve cabins named for the route (Senggigi, Rinjani, Flores, Gili, Sumbawa), a jacuzzi and sundeck for the open-water hours, a chef in the galley and a 40 HP tender for landings. Eleven of the twelve cabins are ensuite. Travelers researching an 8 day Komodo Flores boat trip usually end up comparing chained crossings; Alfathran 3 covers the essential water in four focused days, and the same hull also runs a reverse westbound crossing with the same cabin categories — ask for whichever direction fits your route.

Getting to the boarding point

Boarding is in Lombok, and reaching it from Bali is straightforward: a short flight into Lombok’s airport or a fast boat toward the Gilis, then a transfer to the marshalling point the operator confirms with your ticket. At the far end the logistics are done for you — the trip closes with a drop-off at your Labuan Bajo hotel or straight to Komodo Airport, so an onward afternoon flight is realistic. Build one buffer night into Labuan Bajo if you can; the harbor town has grown into a destination in its own right, and arriving off a crossing is the best mood in which to see it.

Kristo’s curation note

Choose Alfathran 3 for the crossing, not despite it. The whale-shark stop and the arrival into Komodo from the open west are things loop boats simply cannot offer. The tradeoff is real open-water time — if two nights out of Labuan Bajo already feels like a stretch, take a harbor-based boat instead.

Best for

  • Travelers routing Bali → Lombok → Labuan Bajo who want the transit to count
  • Anyone chasing the whale-shark encounter en route to the park
  • Groups filling several of the twelve cabins at once — the fare stays flat per person
  • Second-time Komodo visitors who have already done the standard loop

The typical 4D3N crossing

Boarding is in Lombok, with the first leg running east past Sumbawa and pausing at the whale-shark grounds, where the crew times the visit for morning activity. From there she works into Komodo National Park proper: dragons on Komodo Island, the Padar ridge, Pink Beach, a drift over Manta Point, then the closing stops at Kanawa, Kelor and Manjarite before the drop-off at your Labuan Bajo hotel or the airport. If your dates favor a loop instead, the 4D3N Komodo charter page maps what the same duration looks like out of the harbor.

Pricing, plainly

Fares are per person for the 4D3N crossing and scale by cabin: Sumbawa cabins from USD 454.98, Gili at USD 541.04, Flores at USD 678.73, Rinjani at USD 747.58, and the top Senggigi cabins at USD 886.85. Park fees and personal extras follow the operator’s current terms — we confirm the full landed cost in writing before you pay anything. Private whole-boat charter of the crossing is quoted on request.
