The fleet directory documents 51 vessels across six classes, and you are welcome to read every page of it. But a directory cannot know that the boat you shortlisted is mid-refit in March, that its best cabin books out first, or that a different hull at the same price runs your exact route with a better tender for beach landings. How it works

- Get three matched vessels, same day. A curator replies with a shortlist of three boats from the documented fleet, typically one value pick, one mid option and one stretch, each with current photos, cabin plan, whole-boat USD price and a suggested route for your nights.
- Lock it in writing. Choose a boat and you receive a written quote stating price, inclusions, exclusions and the cancellation schedule. A deposit confirms the charter, and Komodo Luxury operations handles crew, provisioning and permits from there.
Who reads your brief
Matching is not a call-center rotation. Briefs land with the curation desk led by Kristo Jehamat, Fleet Director: a Manggarai native with twelve years on this harbor who boards and grades every vessel in the directory himself. The three boats you get back are chosen against his current grading notes — which hulls are freshly refitted, which crews are strongest this season, which boat fits ten guests without feeling like ten guests.
What to include in your brief
Send what you know; the desk will ask for the rest. The strongest briefs cover:
- Dates and flexibility. Fixed dates, or a window. Even “any three nights in the first half of August” is workable.
- Guests. How many adults, plus children’s ages if any. Cabin layouts and safety briefings change with a four-year-old aboard.
- Nights. If undecided, say so and the desk will recommend against the duration ladder. Most first charters land on the 3D2N signature loop.
- Budget band. A whole-boat range in US dollars, or per person for shared trips. Honest bands get honest matches; there are documented boats at every tier.
- Style. Traditional phinisi, modern yacht, fast day boat or dive-ready liveaboard. Or simply describe the trip you want and let the class follow.
- Must-haves. Ensuite cabins, air-conditioning, a compressor for diving, connectivity for working aboard, a shaded deck for a grandmother: the details that decide between two otherwise equal boats.
- Anything unusual. A proposal at Padar, dietary rules, a drone, a wheelchair, a birthday cake at anchor. Said early, almost everything is arrangeable.
Private, shared or day format
Most briefs resolve into a private whole-boat charter, which is where matching earns its keep: the boat, route and pace are built around one group. But say so if your numbers point elsewhere. Couples and solo travelers on a tighter band can be matched to shared cabins on selected phinisi departures, and groups with only one spare day can be matched to a fast day boat instead of an overnight hull. The brief works the same way in every case; only the shortlist changes.
The same-day promise
Briefs sent during the day on Labuan Bajo time (WITA) are answered the same day, usually within hours. Briefs that land overnight are answered the following morning. If your match requires checking a boat’s calendar with its owner, the curator says so and tells you when the confirmed shortlist will arrive rather than leaving the thread silent.
