Vagabond — dive and sail expedition boat | Labuan Bajo Boat Charter

Vagabond is a dive-and-sail expedition boat whose reputation was built in eastern Indonesia’s dive circuits. For Komodo National Park she is a request boat: departures from Labuan Bajo are seasonal rather than standing, cabin layout and diver capacity are confirmed at quote stage, and pricing is on request.

We grade Vagabond differently from the fixed-schedule fleet, and we say so plainly. Her home waters and most documented seasons sit further east, so when guests ask for the vagabond komodo boat they are usually chasing a crossing or repositioning window — the weeks when an expedition dive boat passes through the park rather than living in it. Those windows exist, they are worth catching, and they need a curator to confirm rather than a calendar to browse.

Kristo’s curation note

Vagabond is for the diver who reads expedition schedules for fun — the kind who asks where the boat winters, not what thread count the sheets are. The tradeoff is availability: she is not a boat I can hold dates on year-round in Komodo, so flexible travelers get her and fixed-date travelers usually end up on Neptune One instead. I would rather tell you that here than after you have planned flights.

Best for

  • Experienced divers hunting expedition-style crossings and repositioning legs
  • Flexible travelers who can move dates to match a departure window
  • Divers pairing Komodo with the deeper east — Vagabond’s documented heartland
  • Small groups that prefer a sailing dive boat over a floating hotel

A typical 3D2N route in her class

When an expedition dive boat works Komodo, the shape is familiar even if the schedule is not. Day one runs a check dive at Sebayur and an easy reef before the Kalong anchorage. Day two takes the north’s current sites — Batu Bolong, Castle Rock or Crystal Rock on their slack windows — with Padar’s ridge walked between dives. Day three drifts Karang Makassar with the mantas before the run home to Labuan Bajo. On longer expedition legs the park is one chapter in a wider route, which is exactly the appeal. The format guide lives on our liveaboard charter Labuan Bajo page.

How a request boat works

Most of our fleet holds standing Komodo schedules; Vagabond does not, so the booking sequence runs in reverse. You give us dates first. We check with the operator whether the boat is in or passing through Komodo waters in that window — expedition boats publish their seasons in blocks, and the blocks move year to year. If the answer is yes, we confirm the departure type: a scheduled expedition leg you join by cabin, or an open window where a small group can take the boat outright. If the answer is no, we say so within a day and shortlist the nearest match from the standing fleet — usually Neptune One for dive-first briefs. What we never do is hold this page out as a calendar. Treat it as a flag you raise: the boat exists, the interest is real, and the curator’s job is to find out whether the two intersect on your dates.

Pricing: how Vagabond is quoted

Everything on this vessel is quoted on request — we hold no verified public rate, capacity or departure list we are willing to print, and we will not pad this page with invented numbers. Tell us your dates and party size; we confirm with the operator whether a Komodo window exists, then return a documented quote stating the basis — per diver by cabin, or whole boat — exactly as offered. For expedition itineraries continuing east toward Raja Ampat, our sister desk at Luxury Raja Ampat curates that side of the crossing.
